At the start of Year 10, students begin to study the Edexcel GCSE 9-1 Mathematics course. However, we have adapted the curriculum to suit the learning needs of all students regardless of their curriculum pathway, while still retaining content and depth that both challenge and motivate learners. The curriculum is accessible to every learner and offers a robust foundation for academic, vocational and employment opportunities.

The Year 11 content is often adapted to reinforce the knowledge and skills gained in KS3 and Year 10. However, it may also be adapted to accommodate students who enter the course at different points and need a different support structure and intervention strategies.

There are overlaps between Functional Skills, KS3 and KS4 contents of study to enable students carry forward and transfer prior knowledge and required skills such as cognitive, communication, problem-solving, evaluation and collaboration. Lessons are enriched with cross-curricular activities, with opportunities to investigate the relevance of Maths to real-life and the workplace.
Gaps in students’ learning and misconceptions will be promptly identified to inform effective intervention strategies that will support students to progress to the next level. This will impact positively on the students’ perception of Maths and improve behaviour for learning. Teaching and learning times will thus be optimised, enhancing the teaching and learning experience of students and teachers, improving learning outcomes in lessons and raising attainment.
