Core subjects are taught at all Key Stages and, if necessary, our service collaborates with the pupil’s mainstream school to follow the National Curriculum. For example, we build on Key Stage 1 students’ knowledge of phonics by using the Oxford Reading Tree scheme, and KS4 GCSE work is linked to what has been covered in school and the specific subject specifications from exam boards.
Our curriculum drivers are the levels the pupils are working at, work set by their school so they keep up with their peers, and the tutors' professional judgement of what meets an individual's learning. The one-to-one targeted support we provide offers pupils an opportunity to close any gaps in their learning. Teachers, parents/carers and medical professionals review the progress the pupil is making in their academic and personal development at ongoing meetings. These inform next steps for the curriculum offer and take pupil feedback into consideration.
