New River College Postcard Competition
This year, New River College invited students from across all sites to take part in a creative postcard competition, challenging young people to respond artistically to one of three themes: celebration, happiness or achievement. Students were competing for the chance to win a £100 prize, have their artwork professionally printed, and see it used as official correspondence for their respective site.
With over 30 submissions received from across the college, the judges were blown away by the quality, creativity and thoughtfulness on display.
Primary Site Winner – JC
Primary submissions were plentiful, and we absolutely loved the joyful use of colour throughout. A strong and recurring rainbow theme emerged across many entries, a brilliant way to depict happiness. Our Primary winner, JC, stood out for their brilliant use of expressive colour and a clear, confident integration of New River College branding. JC has received a voucher as recognition for their hard work, and we can’t wait to see this vibrant design brought to life in a glossy, professional finish.
Medical Site Winner – VK
The standard of submissions from the Medical site was high. The winning piece by VK uses impressive artistic skill to transform the New River College logo into a river flowing through a mountainside. The use of fine liner gives the design a clean, precise finish, resulting in a polished and professional piece. A fantastic achievement - well done, VK!
Secondary Site Winner & Overall School Winner – MFB (Year 9)
Secondary submissions showcased a brilliant mix of academic creativity and popular culture influence. However, one piece immediately captured the judges’ attention.
The winning submission by MFB, is a photography-based project in which objects from around the school were photographed to form the alphabet, then digitally edited into a bold and engaging postcard design. Judges particularly loved his innovative use of textiles to create the New River College logo. This outstanding entry not only won the Secondary site prize but was also awarded the overall school-wide winner, and will be proudly featured on the New River College website.
