About the Course

At New River College we aim to deliver a high-quality science education that provides the foundation for understanding the world through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics. Students are taught the essential aspects of the knowledge, methods, processes and uses of science and encouraged to recognise the power of rational explanation and to develop a sense of excitement and curiosity about natural phenomena.

A range of formative assessment techniques are used to assess students’ knowledge and understanding and to inform future learning.

Key Stage 4

About the Course

Students at New River College are offered a range of science courses appropriate to their individual requirements. AQA GCSE Core Science provides an essential grounding in biology, chemistry and physics. For students who wish to extend their studies further, or perhaps study sciences at A Level, then there is the potential to study AQA Additional Science or Triple Science. We also offer AQA Entry Level Science which can be studied alongside the Core Science or as a standalone course.

GCSE and Entry Level qualifications are assessed through external examination and controlled assessment.
